Innocean

Hi my name is Kien Nguyen, the kid who commented on Jason's hilarious Music Video LinkedIn post that “future interns have to rethink their strategy when applying to Innocean USA this summer.” And after giving it some thoughts, I decided to make this landing page following Jason's portfolio intro. Because I do find a lot of similarities between him and I, just massively different in scale in each case. And as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and ambition is the greatest drive, starting as an Innocean Intern, I hope to become one of the Major People like Jason someday. I also launched my advertising career through… a parody Music Video. The song, inspired by Phineas & Ferb's intro, was called "Quarantine! Where do we begin?". And even tho my voice isn't as great as Jason’s, a creative director in town loved it, and gave me my first internship at TBWA\ Vietnam. 3 years later and I'm now still a non-major creative, a Young Lion from Vietnam, and a college senior at Miami University of Ohio.

I hosted… a Lunar Deckwarming party on Google Slide. It was last year’s Lunar New Year, but because I was stuck in my 3x5 college dorm room in the States like many international students, my friends and I moved our home and our celebration online, on Google Slide, so I could invite family, friends, and other creative idols to come over and bless us with good luck. We called it, Lunar Deckwarming, which has received a “Love It!” from Aaron Starkman.

I’ve been fortunate to be included on a few industry… short-lists. Didn't go to a portfolio school, but thanks to my time learning from the Internet, personal projects and from my colleagues at work, my book was selected by The Young Ones as one of the Top 50 Advertising Portfolio worldwide.

My work has been recognized by… small award shows. I’ve won M.AD Crystal Star in Film with Bloomin' Central and have only made it to the Finalists in Outdoor at Spikes Asia with Massage Cyclo. Regardless, the only real win that my mom approved was me winning Silver in the Film & Integrated category at Vietnam Young Lions.

I’ve written two… non-industry books. One to try to save the animals, and the other one was to say goodbye to my ex-Group Creative Director as she retired from Advertising. While writing this, I think compiling all of my father's random poems into a poetry book and giving it to him on his next birthday in August might be a great idea! (I will note that down).

I’ve helped launch some of the most… random products of this generation. I came up with the Massage Cyclo, that was pretty cool. But to be a little bit more on trend, last summer, my team and I turned shoes into human Tinder profiles using Generative A.I. so that they could help us match couples. The piece was just being shortlisted by The ANDYS APAC :’)))

I’ve done work that’s made… no difference. I tried to save the iPod by pitching The Ipod Mode to the Apple Mar-com team; they liked it but never did anything. I also tried to save Rhinos with The Rainbow Rhino. And while our CCO loved it, the client didn't approve. But well, those haven't stopped me from trying again.

I’ve been a leader within the ma…gic community. I co-founded the first student-run magic club in highschool Vietnam. We called it Define Magic Club with our motto “Define Your Magic. Define You.” And it did reach 2000 organic followers on Facebook :’)))

I have been honored by… my parents, my sister, and many of my colleagues. Hopefully I can get Jason to write and sign in my 7-pound Math Textbook turned Advertising Memoir as well!

What else?… Well, in my first ever internship, instead of just sending the deck, my silly CD and I once pulled up an all nighter to role play and shoot a Vlog presentation pitch. That was how I develop my work ethics. And in my latest agencies' 9-Year Ceremony, I helped made a new chili beer. That is how I love to celebrate. I also love Bidets and hate toilet papers. And I’m working on bringing them to the US and our Innocean office! We can talk more about that later.
